Hoop decorations are something that have taken many weddings by storm in the last few years, and it could be time to add an addition or two to your own big day after learning how to make your own gorgeous DIY hula hoop table plan.

Start With The Base

To start, you will need to find a hula hoop to use as the base. Thankfully, these can be found just about anywhere without a hefty price tag. Then, it’s time to choose a theme. Spray paints can quickly color your hoop to match the rest of the wedding’s color theme while ribbons can be wrapped around to give a little texture to your hoop instead. The choice is all yours!

Place Your Ribbon

The next step is to measure out and place your ribbon for the hoop. You need a ribbon that is thick enough to hold your table plans and long enough to reach from one side of the hoop to the other. Simply cut a few lengths of ribbon depending on how much space you need for your table plans. Then, attach them to the underside of your hoop using double sided tape or glue.

Attach Some Decorations

Here comes the fun bit. It’s time to add a few decorations to your hoop! This could be anything from faux plants to paper butterflies or anything else that goes with your theme. It’s best to add any real plants as late as possible to ensure they stay fresh while wrapping the hoop in fairy lights can add a little shimmer to your table plan.

Write Your Plans

Now the hula hoop table plan is made, it’s time to add the finishing touches with those plans. Parents are embarrassing especially when you want them to meet someone that’s special to you. This girl brought her first serious boyfriend home from college. However, she — along with her beau — had no idea what would be greeting them at the door.

They were welcomed by her parents… who were in full Star Trek uniforms. Her dad was even wearing Spock ears. Then, when they ordered pizza, the delivery guy even got in on the joke. While we find this story pretty amusing, we’re sure that the OP didn’t feel the same way at the time. Hopefully, she can laugh about it now!

So, this OP’s boyfriend decides to visit his girlfriend and her extended family on Christmas to give her a present. Pretty sweet, huh? He brings his five-year-old sister, Kimmie, with him. It didn’t take long for little Kimmie to ask Jeff if they could leave.

You’ve been dating a guy for half a year. You’re 18 years old, while he’s 19 years old. He decides that you should meet his parents — at a time that his mother is totally doped up on painkillers, as she had just broken her arm. Perhaps that was his plan?

Anyway, the OP meets her partner’s mother for the first time. Evidently, it goes so well that the mother told her son that if he doesn’t marry his girlfriend, she will. That’s a lot of love!

Fathers are very protective of their daughters. They don’t like when their daughters grow up and start dating. So, with that being said, we really don’t need to talk about how much fathers of young girls dislike boys.

This is one such particular story. One woman posted a story about her father meeting her mother’s parents for the first time. Hilariously, the first thing grandpa did when they met was pants his future son-in-law. Honestly, it could have been worse!

This OP’s ex-fiancé met her parents during Christmastime. Things were going smoothly until it was time to exchange presents. See, the fiancé had gotten a vibrating back massager for his girlfriend. Not a very appropriate gift to give in front of parents…

Her mother burst into a fit of laughter while her stepdad just sat back with a stone-faced expression. Despite all the laughing, it still took the OP’s fiancé half a minute to realize what all the fuss was about.

It’s very important to learn the customs and language of your significant other. Take this story for an example, in which a man from Belgium married a woman from the United States. The OP’s father told his mother that it’s actually a Flemish custom for new family members to stand up every time they want to say something.

So, the wife stood up every time she wanted to speak. The family asked the husband why she stood up every time to which he answered that he didn’t know. The OP’s mother only learned the truth almost 20 years after the fact. Now, that’s just hilariously evil!

This couple had only been dating for a bit when the OP traveled to the Pacific Northwest to meet his future wife’s family. Out of respect, the OP and his partner slept in separate rooms. And so, the OP was given an old, creaky bed… that apparently, wasn’t very strong.

When the OP’s girlfriend came in to say good morning, she sat on the edge of the bed. Seconds later, the bed came tumbling down. And, naturally, the rest of the trip was filled with accusatory stares.

So, this OP meets his now-wife’s father for the first time and they go out for a guys night to get to know each other. They go to a bar and they start drinking. They keep drinking and before the OP knows it, he’s flying high. He wakes up the next day in the guest bedroom with no memory of what happened and what was said the night before.

Clearly, though, things went pretty well considering that the father threatened his daughter not to mess the relationship up. Now, that’s a seal of approval if we’ve ever heard one!

Knowing your girlfriend/boyfriend’s native language is quite important. It can save you from a lot of embarrassing and awkward moments. Take this post, for instance. This OP was in the car with his girlfriend’s dad.

Throughout the entire ride home, her dad spoke to the OP in Greek. The twist is — well not exactly a twist, but rather a misfortune — the boyfriend didn’t speak Greek. The question is, how did the father not realize this?

We don’t have to tell you how embarrassing and awkward the latter part of the dinner must have been. The worst part was the smell, which crept in after everyone had already moved on. Talk about a stinky situation!

So, this OP meets her boyfriend’s dad at his hockey game. At first, things were going well. He even bought her hot cocoa while he was getting himself a cup of coffee. How sweet!

Unfortunately, it was only a few minutes later that the OP would witness her boyfriend’s father getting overly worked up about the game — to the point that he started arguing and even threw his coffee in the ref’s face. We have to be extremely careful about what we do and don’t say in front of our partner’s parents. This OP was having dinner with his girlfriend’s parents for the first time. As the talk of traveling broke out, the boyfriend joined in by talking about his trip to Europe!

For some reason, he thought it would be appropriate to discuss his stay in a brothel, where he met some interesting people. Naturally, this was met with stares from all sides of the table. Perhaps, brothels aren’t a good topic to cover with your girlfriend’s parents!

During holiday vacation, this OP decided to drive up to her boyfriend’s hometown to spend time with him. When she arrives, he asks if she wants to meet his parents. Immediately after she agrees, the nerves start getting to her — she researches conversation topics and redoes her makeup.

It turns out, though, that all of her preparations were for nothing. When they arrive, the OP’s boyfriend introduces her to his parents… to which they say “hello” before turning back to watch Storage Wars. This goes on for an hour before the OP and her boyfriend decide to leave.

Because he had no family around, this OP was invited to his girlfriend’s family home for Thanksgiving. When he arrives, he’s greeted by one of the dogs who must have been so excited that she urinated all over the OP’s newly purchased shoes.

Not a good start. But, still, he proceeds to walk into the house and leaves his shoes by the door. Of course, he only realizes what socks he has on after he shakes the father’s hand. Let’s just hope they were able to move on from that awkward moment.

This OP’s brother was meeting his then-girlfriend’s family for the first time. The girlfriend’s relatives brought a tray of deli meat to snack on before dinner. The OP’s brother happened to be the first to notice that the meat had gone bad, but out of fear of insulting someone, he stayed quiet and shoved the piece of salami in his pocket rather than chucking it in the bin.

Unfortunately, the dog wouldn’t stop pestering him as he sat at the table during dinner. No one ever found out what the OP’s brother had done, but even so, we’re not surprised that he was so embarrassed by the whole thing!

First dates are awkward, to begin with. Add the parents to the mix, and well, it’s a whole different story. This OP went to pick his girlfriend up for their first date. There, he briefly met her parents, who — according to the OP himself — seemed perfectly nice.

Unfortunately, the feeling wasn’t mutual as the parents ended up calling the cops on OP, thinking that he was going to kidnap their daughter. Uh, then why’d you let her go in the first place? You could have saved the guy the trouble of nearly getting arrested!

Anyone that has ever been in a long-distance relationship knows the struggle of having to carve out time — and money — in order to visit their significant other. Going to a different place that’s nine hours away is an experience in and of itself.

Meeting your partner’s parents for the first time in the middle of the night after they’ve just driven an hour to release their daughter’s car from the impound lot is really a whole different story. Then again, the OP did marry this person so we guess it worked out in the end. Let’s just hope the OP’s father-in-law now greets him with more than just a grunt.

Sheesh — unlike the other ones on the list, there’s really nothing amusing about this story. We’re not entirely sure how old the OP and his then-girlfriend were at the time that this happened.

Whether or not they were young, we don’t think the father’s reaction to the situation was warranted. In any event, judging by this post, we can only assume that the OP and his partner are no longer together.

As we’ve already mentioned, long-distance relationships can be quite challenging, especially if you really don’t get to see your partner all that often. So naturally, when you do see your SO, you want to make every moment count.

This OP was planning on doing just that during her visit with her boyfriend. Unfortunately, things didn’t go exactly as expected because her partner’s father returned home early. Now, she not only left a lasting impression on her boyfriend, but on his father as well.

There’s something a little less intimidating about meeting your partner’s grandparents in comparison to their parents. Still, that doesn’t mean you should greet your girlfriend’s grandmother in the nude!

We just have so many questions! For one, why wouldn’t the OP’s significant other warn him that Granny would be visiting? What was Grandma’s reaction when she met her granddaughter’s boyfriend in his birthday suit? We guess we’ll never know!

We don’t know about you guys but this post definitely made us cringe a little. It’s bad enough meeting your partner’s mother in her son’s t-shirt — it’s even worse when mama bear is actually your boss!

It’s not uncommon for parents to try and control who their teenager dates, if they even let them date at all. So, with that, this next story doesn’t come as much of a shock.

Still, we can understand how this whole experience must have made the OP feel, considering that they broke up soon after they got caught by her then-boyfriend’s mother.

From the sounds of it, Judy has a very special place in her mother-in-law’s heart considering that she’d be willing to give up her own son if it meant that she got to keep her daughter-in-law.

There’s nothing wrong with baby talk, or naughty talk, as long as you’re not doing it while meeting your future mother-in-law for the first time. Granted, the mom did start the conversation first but the OP made it that much more awkward with her response.

Still, that response wasn’t enough to cause a breakup! Now that the couple is engaged, we’re sure that mommy dearest has been hounding them about making babies!

Oof. This ‘Meet the Parents’ story is one of the worst that we’ve read thus far. This poor OP lives to the tale about meeting her ex-boyfriend’s Chinese parents for the first time. Not only were they extremely cheap, but they were also totally judgmental — not to mention overbearing! From taking communal showers at 24-Hour Fitness to picking weeds outside in the hot sun, this meeting really couldn’t have gone any worse.

Or, could it? The next few days were even weirder. Why? Well, because the mother made a gynecologist appointment for her son’s girlfriend with a doctor that barely spoke a word of English. No wonder why the OP explains the whole encounter as horrible and embarrassing…

Well, we think it’s safe to say that this meetup is one of the darker ones on the list. Despite the fact that this gal’s parents were just trying to be safe by calling her for a sober ride home, things really took a turn for the worse once she arrived at the bar with the OP.

Forget the fact that this was the OP’s first time meeting his partner’s parents — the partner’s dad literally flipped over the railing and split his skull wide open! We’re really not at all surprised that the relationship didn’t last long.

This really isn’t what you want to hear before meeting your partner’s mom. While we understand the boyfriend’s intentions, in this case, meeting your SO’s parents for the first time is always nerve-wracking — unless you really couldn’t care less about what they think of you.

So, perhaps he just shouldn’t have told the OP not to be scared… or the fact that his mom can smell fear. Good luck to any person that has to call this lady their mother-in-law!

Everyone should be able to live their lives exactly how they please — whether that means quitting your full-time job and backpacking around the world, or living in the nude. Still, your parents’ lifestyle should probably come up in conversation before you bring your girlfriend home to meet them.

Or, your partner might end up reacting the same way as this OP did. Perhaps her reaction wasn’t the most mature, but who can really blame her when she’s just gotten an eyeful of her boyfriend’s dad?

Although the OP in this story wasn’t dating the girl that he was doing a science project with, the post further proves just how protective dads can be over their little girl. Seriously, dude — there’s no reason to threaten a little 13-year-old with a loaded weapon.

He wasn’t even interested in your daughter! We feel bad for any fella that does want to date this gal because they’re in for a rude awakening when it comes time to meet Papa Bear.

In all honesty, this encounter could have been way worse. Although this little greeting may have felt quite awkward to the OP when it initially happened, we’re sure the dad had already forgotten about it five minutes later.

We’re not sure about you guys but we’d say that this OP handled himself perfectly. Even when his girlfriend’s father was grilling him, he knew exactly what he had to do to one-up the old man.

From the sounds of it, it seems like the OP and his lady friend are no longer together — which is really too bad considering that he got dad’s seal of approval. Then again, a relationship between two people shouldn’t be about whether or not the parents approve.
